Shopping, Dining & Recreation in Medina
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, historic Medina Square is reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell Main Street painting. The charming downtown square includes a village green with a gazebo surrounded by nine blocks of shops, restaurants, and businesses. The Square is also where Medina residents enjoy a host of annual community events like Candlelight Walk, Art in the Park, music concerts, and The Medina Ice Festival featuring ice carvers from around the globe.
Perhaps Medina’s most venerable downtown establishment is the 150-year-old A.I. Root Candle Co, maker of nationally renowned candles. Come the winter holiday season, their 3-story flagship store is decorated floor-to-ceiling for Christmas.
Just north of the Historic Square is the main commercial district with restaurants, grocery, drug stores, banking, and shops including Target, Walmart, Staples, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, Kohl’s, Marshalls and more.
Nearby cities are bustling with additional retail & recreational opportunity: Summit Mall Akron (20 min) and SouthPark Center Mall in Strongsville (20 min).
From national chains to local spots, dining options are plentiful. Local favorites include the chef-driven Thyme 2 offering both fine dining as well as pub fare, Timber Lodge for steaks or Sunday brunch (get there early and ask for their homemade candied bacon!), The Corkscrew Saloon for new American seafood & steak dishes in a historic space, Twiisted for burgers and sushi (yes, you read that right!), and Tres Potrillos for authentic Mexican and a lovely patio. For those with a sweet tooth, Circles On The Square has gourmet donuts, and there are goodies from Honey Bee Bakery and A Cupcake A Day.
The Medina Community Recreation Center includes a fitness center, a four-lane track, field house with four multipurpose courts, an indoor competition pool, a leisure pool with play structures and sprays, a whirlpool, and locker rooms.
A public outdoor pool and two splash pads are just some of the amenities offered by Medina’s extensive park system, which encompasses 800+ acres of parkland across 14 different locations with 12 playgrounds, 2 disc golf courses, ball courts, a remote-controlled car track, skate park, 16 miles of mountain bike trails, 4+ miles of paved multipurpose paths, nature trails, dog parks, and large lakes for non-motorized water sports.
Come rainy days, there’s still family fun to be had at Alien Vacation Mini Golf or
Foundry Social, which offers a variety of games such as duckpin bowling, billiards, bocce, pinball, and ping pong, an arcade, great food, a full bar and brewery, and high voltage indoor go-karting.
Golfers will appreciate having the choice of three private country clubs (Fox Meadow, Medina, and Weymouth) and the public golf courses of Bunker Hill, Pleasant Valley, Ridge Top, and Shale Creek. Neighboring communities offer additional private clubs and public courses.
