About Columbia Station Ohio
Columbia Station, also known as Columbia Township, is located in Lorain County Ohio roughly 24 miles (30 minutes) southwest of downtown Cleveland. It is the easternmost of Lorain County‘s eighteen townships.
Surrounding suburbs include Olmsted Township, Olmsted Falls, Berea, Strongsville, Brunswick Hills, Liverpool Township, Grafton Township, Eaton Township, and North Ridgeville.
Founded in 1807, Columbia was the first continuously inhabited settlement in Lorain County.
Today, with a population of roughly 7,300, Columbia Station is a somewhat small town offering residents a quiet rural country atmosphere. It is a close-knit, traditional community with a comfortable hometown feel.
Columbia Station is a great location for families looking for a good community to raise children. It offers an enviable combination of low taxes (no RITA!), very low crime, good schools (Columbia Local School District), college-educated residents who tend to support education, and a high rate of homeownership in predominantly single-family properties.
While shopping, dining, and entertainment options within the city are limited, there is a plethora of commerce in neighboring cities like Strongsville (15 min to Southpark Mall) and North Olmsted (18 min to Great Northern Mall).
With only minutes to I-71 and I-80, commuting is easy. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is about 20 minutes away.

Restaurants, Parks and Activities in Columbia Station
Columbia Station offers families multiple options for recreational entertainment. The Lorain County Metro Parks’ Columbia Reservation has 425-acres characterized by open scenic views transversed by The Rocky River, numerous lakes and ponds, kayak/canoe access, 4 miles of trails, a playground, 18-hole mini-golf course, picnic shelters, a pizzeria & ice cream parlor, and an outdoor movie theatre.
The city’s Columbia Township Park is home to ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, a volleyball court, horseshoe pits, pavilions, a playground, and a walking path. The park also hosts various events year-round.
Columbia Station has three public 18-hole courses — Creekwood, Hickory Nut, and Royal Crest — as well as a 36-hole course at Mallard Creek. If you are looking for private club membership, the country club of Columbia Hills has catered to the area’s residents since 1929.
During the fall, Rockin-R-Ranch equestrian farm transforms into Spooky Ranch with four haunted houses and haunted hayrides. They also host an Annual Old West Pumpkin Fest featuring a pumpkin patch, live musical stage shows, face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, and zombie paintball.
Red Wagon Farm’s annual Pumpkin Festival features attractions like a 5-acre corn maze, sunflower field, straw jump, straw bale maze, corn kernel pit, and lawn games including a 9-hole footgolf course, Jenga, ladder toss, Four Across, corn hole, and checkers board. Come June, the farm offers pick-your-own strawberries! Check out their brand new Brewing Company, which offers homemade beer, seltzer, and hard cider — all brewed on-site.
As for restaurants, there are plenty of options. For casual Italian comfort food, there’s Barbarino’s Restaurant with a large wraparound bar and a patio. Bootleggers Bar & Grille and Four Keys Restaurant offer classic American options. If you’re in the mood for BBQ, there’s the Smoking Bean Cafe & BBQ.
New Construction For Sale in Columbia Station
Historically, the township was occupied by farmland. Today, the land is being developed into housing subdivisions to make way for families looking to build homes.
Columbia Station is one of the few remaining communities with opportunities for new housing developments with larger lots and an idyllic countryside location.
New construction in Columbia Station is available in the following developments:
Redfern Trails – A new construction community of ranch and two-story floor plans by Drees Homes in northeast Columbia Station. Homes were built beginning in 2020. As of late-2023, lots were still available for sale. Upon completion, the 65-acre site will include roughly 144 homes.
Emerald Woods – A new construction community of two-story home designs by Pulte Homes in northeast Columbia Station Ohio. Previously the site of a golf course by the same name, Emerald Woods will offer ranch and two-story homes surrounded by water features and 160 acres of reserved common area. Upon completion, the 300+ acre subdivision will include approximately 587 homes. Homes were constructed beginning in 2021. As of late 2023, there were yet lots remaining for sale.
Baker Creek Estates – A new community of homes in northeast Columbia Station by Drees Homes and Garland New Homes. Homes begin at 2,300 square feet. As of late 2023, lots were still available for purchase.
