About North Royalton, Ohio

With an enviable combination of low crime (named in the Top 25 Safest Small Cities in the U.S.!), exceptional schools, well-maintained roads, a high rate of homeownership in predominantly single-family properties, subdivisions with sidewalks, nearby interstate access, local conveniences, and a plethora of retail in neighboring cities, North Royalton has many features that make it an appealing place to live.

Location

North Royalton is a suburb of Cleveland located along the southern border of Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

It is bordered to the north by Parma, to the east by Broadview Heights, to the south by the township of Hinckley (Medina County), and to the west by Strongsville.

Well situated between two major cities, downtown Cleveland is about 13 miles north (roughly a 25-minute drive), and Akron is 20 miles south.

The residential postal code for North Royalton is 44133.

Demographics

With a population of approximately 31,120, North Royalton is considered a medium-sized suburb.

Living in North Royalton offers residents a dense suburban feel.

Topography

The East Branch of the Rocky River, Healy Creek, and numerous tributary streams flow across the city’s southwest quadrant, characterized by rolling and heavily ravined topography. Some properties adjacent to these waterways are designated as FEMA Flood Zones.

Varied topography is also present adjacent to tributaries of Baldin Creek and the East Branch of the Rocky River along the northwest quadrant, Big Creek and its many tributaries through the northeast quadrant, and tributaries to Rocky River East Branch near the southeast corner of the city.

Infrastructure

North Royalton offers a prime location to major highways, where you can get to just about anywhere you need within 30 minutes! It is conveniently located between the two major north-southbound interstates of I-71 (1.3 miles west) and I-77 (3 miles east). The city is traversed by The Ohio Turnpike (I-80), but all access points (exit/entrance ramps) are located outside city limits, so there is no increased traffic congestion.

Commuting to downtown Cleveland for work or play is about a 25-minute drive.

The roads in the city are well maintained – unlike the pothole-ridden streets surrounding downtown Cleveland – and the major east-west roadway, State Route 82 (Royalton Road), has been recently expanded and repaved.

With the exception of the Town Center District (the stretch of Royalton Road between State Road and Ridge Road), most main roads lack adequate sidewalk connections to qualify the city as a walkable community. However, residential subdivisions do have sidewalks for walking and biking.
