About North Royalton, Ohio

Location
North Royalton is a suburb of Cleveland located along the southern border of Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
It is bordered to the north by Parma, to the east by Broadview Heights, to the south by the township of Hinckley (Medina County), and to the west by Strongsville.
Well situated between two major cities, downtown Cleveland is about 13 miles north (roughly a 25-minute drive), and Akron is 20 miles south.

With a population of approximately 31,120, North Royalton is considered a medium-sized suburb.

Topography
The East Branch of the Rocky River, Healy Creek, and numerous tributary streams flow across the city’s southwest quadrant, characterized by rolling and heavily ravined topography. Some properties adjacent to these waterways are designated as FEMA Flood Zones.
Varied topography is also present adjacent to tributaries of Baldin Creek and the East Branch of the Rocky River along the northwest quadrant, Big Creek and its many tributaries through the northeast quadrant, and tributaries to Rocky River East Branch near the southeast corner of the city.
Infrastructure
North Royalton offers a prime location to major highways, where you can get to just about anywhere you need within 30 minutes! It is conveniently located between the two major north-southbound interstates of I-71 (1.3 miles west) and I-77 (3 miles east). The city is traversed by The Ohio Turnpike (I-80), but all access points (exit/entrance ramps) are located outside city limits, so there is no increased traffic congestion.
Commuting to downtown Cleveland for work or play is about a 25-minute drive.
With Cleveland Hopkins International Airport ≤20 minutes away, living in North Royalton is ideal for air travel!
Roadways in North Royalton do not include any high-speed highways. All major roadways are 35 mph. Neighborhood streets are 25 mph.
The roads in the city are well maintained – unlike the pothole-ridden streets surrounding downtown Cleveland – and the major east-west roadway, State Route 82 (Royalton Road), has been recently expanded and repaved.
With the exception of the Town Center District (the stretch of Royalton Road between State Road and Ridge Road), most main roads lack adequate sidewalk connections to qualify the city as a walkable community. However, residential subdivisions do have sidewalks for walking and biking.
Education
A major draw for families is the city’s exceptional standards of education. The majority of North Royalton students (and some households along the southwest end of Broadview Heights) attend the award-winning North Royalton City School District. The district consistently ranks in the top 20% of all school districts in Ohio, recently achieving an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars (exceeds state standards) on the 2024 Ohio School Report Cards. The high school ranks #20 in the Cleveland Metro Area by U.S. News.
North Royalton City Schools is a member of the National Division of the Suburban League. The school colors are purple and gold, and the athletic teams are known as the Bears.
The population of North Royalton is very well educated relative to most cities and towns in the nation. Many of the High School’s athletic teams have won state titles, with the girls’ gymnastics team notably earning its 21st consecutive state title!

A plethora of shopping and dining options are located in neighboring Strongsville, where SouthPark Mall is just 2 miles west.
Recreation
The City of North Royalton’s Memorial Park includes an organic community garden, a skate park, splash pad, fountained fishing pond, playground, pavilions, and numerous ball courts and fields.

North Royalton has a newer YMCA, built in 2012. It features a gymnasium with premium free-weights and exercise equipment, cycling studio, yoga studio, an elevated track, two-court basketball gymnasium, indoor aquatics center, and an outdoor playground.
Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate access to the Cleveland Metroparks’ Valley Parkway paved multi-purpose trail (aka Metropolitan Park Dr), which crosses the southern portion of the city and includes attractions like picnic areas, Pawpaw Sledding Area, an archery range, and Aukerman Park’s dog agility course. Heading west, Valley Parkway trail leads through Mill Stream Run Reservation all the way to Rocky River Reservation. To the east, the trail connects to Brecksville Reservation and the 81-mile Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
A beloved destination since 1976, Mr. Divot’s Sports Park offers fun for the whole family with a Top Tracer driving range with heated bays, miniature golf, batting cages, sand volleyball courts, a sports bar, and seasonal soft-serve ice cream shop.
