Lake Forest Tudor Revivals in Hudson
coved ceilings. The neighborhoods surrounding the downtown area of Hudson Ohio are filled with older homes which are refined, beautiful, unique, stately, invi. ….
In the 1920s the Cleveland-based development company, S.H. Kleinman Realty Co, purchased more than 1,000 acres of farmland in Hudson to develop “Lake Forest” subdivision that would include a country club, golf course, two new man-made inland lakes (Laurel Lake and Lake Forest), five parks, bridle trails, and more than 1,000 English Tudor revival luxury homes. At the time, the Lake Forest development was the largest single development attempted in Ohio since the Van Sweringen brothers began developing Shaker Heights in 1905.
Unfortunately, only a clubhouse and two Tudor revival homes designed by architect H.O. Fullerton were completed before the 1929 stock market crash forced the developer into bankruptcy.
Development of Lake Forest residences was not resumed until the 1950s with the addition of modest affordable homes.

257 Atterbury Boulevard
Built in 1928, the charming Cotswold Tudor Revival at 257 Atterbury Blvd looks straight out of a storybook. The front elevation features a stucco exterior with a stone central facade and prominent stone chimney. Rectangular mullioned casement windows with either diamond-paned leaded glass or square muntons (grids) have full stone surround, hoodmolds and side blocking. Framing the original oak plank door is a Tudor arch stone surround with label moulding (hoodmold), and diamond-shaped label stops.
Inside, there are 4,490 square feet with 6 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The tiled entry alcove offers a coat closet and convenient powder room on the opposite side. An elegant oak turned staircase with original gothic wrought iron railing frame the foyer. Stepping through the arched entryway into the sunken living room, the original Tudor arch masonry fireplace and latticed leaded glass windows offer old-world ambiance. Double glass doors lead to the vaulted sunroom with tile flooring and views of/access to the terrace and pool. Adjacent to the kitchen is a spacious formal dining room with decorative cornices, as is in the living room. The renovated and expanded kitchen includes handcrafted cabinets, a center island with seating, concrete countertops, and original wood-burning oven/fireplace, which is open to the family room. Modern conveniences include a laundry room, mudroom with cubbies, and a full bathroom on the first floor.
The top of the main staircase features large diamond-paned leaded glass windows and leads to the owner’s suite complete with a fireplace and renovated bathroom with tiled walk-in shower and soaking tub. The second floor has two additional full bathrooms and five guest bedrooms, which can also be accessed by a spiral staircase near the kitchen.
Additional Tudor elements include hardwood floors on the first floor, arched entryways, inlaid panel doors, and textured plaster walls and ceilings.
This home has an unfinished basement and attached two-car garage. It has been converted to forced air heat with central air conditioning.
The sides and part of the rear elevation feature decorative Tudor half-timbering.
This home sits upon .99 acres. On the outside, the property embraces nature with lush flower beds and garden landscaping.
It is serviced by public water and sewer.
