About Strongsville, Ohio

Strongsville, Ohio is a vibrant Cleveland suburb boasting an enviable combination of proximity to downtown, excellent schools, low crime, Metroparks, community events, extensive retail and dining establishments, numerous luxury housing developments, and a high rate of homeownership in predominantly single-family properties.

Location

Part of Northeast Ohio’s Cleveland metropolitan area, Strongsville, Ohio is a city located in the southwest corner of Cuyahoga County, approximately 15 miles southwest of downtown Cleveland.

The residential postal codes for Strongsville, Ohio are 44136 (east half of the city) and 44149 (west half of the city).

It is bordered by the other cities of Berea and Middleburg Heights to the north, Parma to the northeast, North Royalton to the east, Brunswick to the south, Columbia Township to the west, and Olmsted Falls to the northwest.

Transportation

The city’s nickname, Crossroads of the Nation, originated from the intersection of two major railways. While the line has long ceased operation, the city motto and seal now reflect the intersection of Interstate 71 and the Ohio Turnpike (I-80).

I-71 runs north-south through the eastern half of the city, with ramps at Pearl Rd and Royalton Rd, providing access to I-480 and The Turnpike. The Turnpike crosses the city’s northeast quadrant, offering convenient connections to major highways like I-480, I-77, I-90 and I-271.

Major city roadways include the 5-lane north-southbound Pearl Rd (Route 42) and 4-lane east-westbound Royalton Rd (Rout 82).

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is ≤12 miles away.

The city covers 25 square miles, making it the largest of Cleveland’s suburbs by land mass.

With a population of 46,491 (2020 census), Strongsville is considered a medium-sized city.

Neighborhoods nearest the East Branch Rocky River boast heavily wooded and scenic varied topography. Its high school is ranked #14 in Cleveland, OH Metro Area High Schools. The school colors are forest green and white. The mascot is the Mustang. 

There’s also a private Catholic school, St. Joseph and John’s, serving children through the 8th grade.

The city-owned Ehrnfelt Recreation Center offers residents an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpool, massage therapy, ball courts, an elevated track, weight and exercise room, and game area with pool tables, ping pong, video games, air hockey and more.

Strongsville boasts roughly 2,400 acres of greenspace and nine city parks with a splash pad, ball courts/fields, playgrounds, pavilions, and trails. Located in central Strongsville at the corner of Pearl Road and Royalton Road, the City Commons is the site of numerous community events and festivals, including Strongsville Homecoming, the Rib Burnoff, Fourth of July fireworks display, Winter Wonderland Lighting Celebration, and Strongsville Community Band concerts.

Approximately 2,000 acres of Mill Stream Run Reservation occupy the northeast quadrant of the city. Spanning more than 3,500 total acres, it is the second largest Cleveland Metroparks reservation, offering Strongsville residents and guests access to paved trails, hike and bike trails, bridle trails, archery, ziplining, axe throwing, and tobogganing at The Chalet – Ohio’s tallest and fastest toboggan ice chutes. Its Valley Parkway Multipurpose Trail connects eastward to Brecksville Reservation and the 81-mile Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, and westward all the way to Rocky River Reservation.

The privately-owned Gardenview Horticultural Park features a 16-acre botanical garden and a 10-acre arboretum displayed in a natural, cottage-style landscape, complete with whimsical statues and lily ponds.

For indoor ice skating and hockey, visit the Brunswick Auto Mart Arena.

Downtown Cleveland is roughly 15 miles northeast for attractions like Lake Erie, museums, Playhouse Square’s renowned theater district, and the city’s professional ball teams―the Browns, Cavs and Guardians.

Historical Village

Strongsville is a historic town dating back to the early 1800s, and its residents take pride in the city’s past, particularly its stops along the Underground Railroad and noteworthy resident John D. Rockefeller.

The Strongsville Historical Society owns and operates the Strongsville Historical Village, a re-created 19th century village composed of buildings constructed between 1822-1904, including a log cabin, general store and school.
