About River Woods Estates in Hinckley
River Woods Estates is a premier community in south-central Hinckley, Ohio of roughly 26 luxury homes situated on sloping, heavily wooded lots with streams and an adjacent nature preserve. This subdivision is located off the north side of Center Rd, 0.2 miles west of River Rd, and comprises the streets of River Woods Dr, River Ridge Oval, and the private drive of Holt Ln.


Homes were custom-built between 1990-2022. Each home was individually designed and constructed by builders including Scholz Design.
These one-of-a-kind homes include ranch, 1.5-story, and 2-story styles that range from 4,500-9,800 square feet with 4-8 bedrooms and 3.5-6.5 bathrooms.

First or second-floor owner’s suites include sitting areas, large walk-in closets with built-ins, and spa-like baths with custom tiled walk-in showers, soaking tubs, dual sinks/vanities, and enclosed commodes. Finished lower levels (many are coveted walk-outs!) are complete with media or theater rooms, kitchens/kitchenettes, bars, wine cellars, and exercise rooms. Winding or circular drives lead to side-entry garages that accommodate 3-4 cars. Some also have an additional detached garage/carriage house.
Homes have well water and septic systems.
Backyard oases are appointed with professional landscaping, multi-tiered custom patios and/or decks, covered or screened porches, balconies, fire pits or fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, private stocked ponds, and even in-ground pools.
Homesites range from 2.0 to 15.34 acres. The average lot size is approximately 4 acres.
Most lots are heavily wooded, whereby homes may be completely enveloped by forest, offering the ultimate in natural privacy.
Homes are constructed at varying elevations between 900′-1005′.
Homes at higher elevations offer magnificent panoramic views overlooking Hinckley Valley.
Some properties feature private ponds, offering tranquil water vistas and on-site paddleboarding.
⚠️The East Branch of the Rocky River flows along numerous properties on the east side of River Woods Dr, and several tributary streams also intersect the community, presenting scenic rolling and ravined topography and opportunities for wildlife viewing. The first few homes on the east side of River Woods Dr abut the 30-acre River Woods Nature Preserve (green parcel on map above), which has a ¾ mile nature trail through shrub, brush and woodlands.

The entrance to River Woods Dr is flanked by landscaped beds with stately stacked stone signage walls. In the center of the street is a landscaped median. Mature pine trees line the beginning of the street, providing privacy to the front of the community.
With only one entrance and no connection to another development, traffic is limited to residents and their guests.
River Woods Dr and River Ridge Oval have permanent cul-de-sacs with landscaped islands.
As with most Hinckley developments, there are no curbs or sidewalks.
Most homes have masonry mailboxes, further enhancing the streetscape.
Homeowner’s Association (HOA) fees at River Woods Estates are approximately $450 annually.
This neighborhood is served by the highly-rated Highland Local School District along with bussing to St. Albert the Great School and the prestigious Old Trail School. Hinckley Elementary is just west of the subdivision off Ridge Rd.

River Woods Estates is located in south-central Hinckley, Ohio, off the north side of Center Rd, 0.2 miles west of River Rd.
Downtown Brunswick is just 11 min west with Home Depot, Marc’s Starbucks, GNC, UPS, Giant Eagle grocery, banking, dining and more.
Highways are accessible in 7 min to I-71 and I-271, 11 min to I-77, and 14 min to I-80/Turnpike.
In addition to the aforementioned River Woods Nature Preserve, there’s even more outdoor recreation nearby. The Metroparks’ Hinckley Reservation is only a 3 min drive with 2,803 acres including twenty miles of all-purpose trails, bridle trails, a 90-acre lake (Hinckley Lake) with a boathouse for water sport rentals, a beach, swimming pool, two smaller fishing ponds also used for ice fishing and skating come winter, stone carvings at Worden’s Ledges, and its most notable feature–the porous sandstone outcroppings of Whipp’s Ledges. Hinckley Reservation is also home to the annual festival known as Buzzard’s Day, which celebrates the return of the turkey vulture to the area around mid-March. Richfield Heritage Preserve is a 10 min drive, offering 336 wooded acres with hiking trails that include a portion of the Buckeye Trail, winding streams, two lakes for fishing and non-motorized watersports, and a horse barn with five miles of bridle trails. The Metroparks’ Mill Stream Run Reservation is 14 min away with trails, rope courses and zip lines, and two toboggan chutes that are open in the winter. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is 15 min away with 33,000-acres including the Cuyahoga River and numerous waterfalls, the 87-mile Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
This is a prime location for golfers with only 9 min to Pine Hills, 7 min to Valleaire and Ironwood, 6 min to Hinckley Hills, 11 min to Briarwood, and 14 min to Seneca Golf Course. If you’re looking for social membership and golf, St. Bernard Golf Club is 5 min, Weymouth Country Club is 14 min, and Pleasant Valley Country Club is 15 min away.
