About Overlook Park in Lakewood
Situated next to the city’s largest park upon a bluff-shore overlooking Lake Erie, the affluent Overlook Park neighborhood of Lakewood Ohio comprises roughly 150 single-family homes, many of them century homes.
The Overlook Park neighborhood encompasses the area north of Clifton Ave between the Gold Coast neighborhood and Lakewood Park (north-south from the lakeshore to Lake Ave, and east-west from Nicholson Ave to Belle Ave).
Main streets comprise sections of Edgewater Dr, Lake Ave and Nicholson Ave. Smaller streets (north of Lake Ave) include Cliff Dr, Edgewater Ln, Estille Dr, Homewood Dr, Kirtland Ln, Parkside Dr, Roy Dr and Wilbert Rd.
The community includes approximately 150 residences, all of which are single-family homes (no high-rises, apartments, duplexes or row homes!). The four cluster homes at 13900 Lake Ave are the only of its kind in the neighborhood.
Overlook Park boasts the second-highest median sales price for single-family homes in Lakewood, preceded only by Clifton Park!
The harmonious tree-lined streetscape is adorned with classic architectural styles like New England Cape Cod, Dutch Colonial, Georgian, and Tudor.
Most homes were built before 1960. Charming features of yesteryear often include vestibules, parlors, formal dining rooms, libraries with rich wood paneling, window seats, built-in shelves, glass-paned french doors, cedar closets, fireplaced owner’s suites and lower-levels, and third-floor living quarters.
Many homes have been updated inside to offer the functionality of a new home while maintaining exterior charm and character.
Overlook Park prides itself on its exquisitely preserved century homes. The community includes two residences designated as Local Lakewood Chapter 1134 Historic Properties: 13428 Lake Ave and 1095 Homewood Ave. One century home not yet designated but locally well-known is the “Lake Cliff” estate at 12984 Lake Ave. Constructed in 1898 by Brougham Harris, it is locally recognized for its Queen Anne architecture and original stone property wall bearing the estate’s name. The home’s exterior was also used in the sitcom Hot In Cleveland.
As for lakefront homes, this neighborhood has approximately 28 homes boasting Lake Erie coastal bluff frontage. Bluff tops are roughly 60′ high (average bluff elevation of 628 feet), offering soaring lakefront vistas.
The property line of homes along Cliff Dr may not extend to the bluff edge, but homes still have unobstructed lakefront views over the street.
Aside from offering direct park access (via Edgewater Dr), Overlook Park is the only neighborhood with homes abutting Lakewood Park. A total of 13 homes along Parkside Dr have backyards bordering the park.
These homes mainly range from 2,500-4,400 square feet with 3-5 bedrooms and 2.5-3.5 bathrooms.
Homesites are generally sized from 0.16 to .29 acres. However, there are couple dozen larger lots and even a few homes with 2+ acres.
Joining the Overlook Park Neighborhood Association is entirely optional. For approximately $50 annually, members benefit from an enhanced sense of community, various social events, and staying abreast of news and block watch alerts.
Also nearby are the esteemed St. Edward High School, a private Roman Catholic high school (≤7 min bike, 4 min drive), and Lakewood Catholic Academy (≤5 min bike, 4 min drive).

Crew, and tons of dining options.
Bordering this community to the west is 31-acre lakefront Lakewood Park, featuring an outdoor pool, skatepark, a huge playground, sport courts/fields, Solstice Steps, and a bandshell that hosts free music concerts and movie nights during the summer. The park is directly accessible via the paved trail adjoining Edgewater Dr.
Fitness enthusiasts will enjoy the proximity to (10 min drive or 22 min bike) The Metroparks’ Valley Parkway All-Purpose Trail, which extends down to Mill Stream Run Reservation and over to the 81-mile Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Rocky River Reservation offers 2,520 acres with picnic areas, play areas, sledding hills, ball fields, nature trails, paved trails, nature center, stables and bridle trails, a marina, fishing areas, boat rentals, waterfalls and lagoons, and three golf courses.
The premier dining and social club, The Clifton Club, is a 7 min drive. The club offers a 3-story historic clubhouse with dining areas, lounges, a pub, and terrace overlooking a beautiful patio and manicured gardens.
The Cleveland Yachting Club (CYC) – one of the oldest and most prestigious yachting clubs in the nation (10 min). Home to more than 300 sail and powerboats, CYC is known for its beautiful setting, family-friendly atmosphere, and first-class facilities including a restaurant, bar, docks, fuel, and a pool.
