Neighborhood Info

1772 W 50th St is located along the junction of the Detroit-Shoreway and Ohio City neighborhoods.

The section of homes from Franklin Boulevard to Taylor Ct and between W 45th to W 50th Streets is known as the Dudley Baldwin Subdivision. Named for Dudley Baldwin (1809-1896), a Cleveland investment banker, incorporator of the Cleveland and Mahoning Valley Railroad, and a west-side real estate developer who platted the subdivision in 1863 (replatted in 1869). In 1874, Baldwin constructed the neighborhood’s first home at 5005 Franklin Boulevard (immediately north of 1772 W 50th St).

This block of West 50th Street between Bridge Avenue and Franklin Boulevard is particularly revered for the 35 protected ash trees forming a lush canopy over the street. The stately trees have beautified the street for over 70 years, offering shade, reduced air-conditioning bills, cleaner air, and increased property values.

Sidewalks along both sides of the street offer plenty of pavement to skate, bike or walk your dog.

The governing block club is the 45-52 Block Club.
