Hey there! It’s Damien Baden, your local real estate agent in Northeast Ohio. I wanted to bring up seven tips to protect the investment of your home and have you ready for spring going into the summer.
Clean Up The Yard
One of the things I like to do this time of year is to walk around and pick up all the sticks that have fallen off the trees. It makes my landscaper very happy because it’s not dulling his mower blades. If you’re mowing yourself, picking up sticks will help you keep your mower blades sharp.
Check the Windows and Doors
Next, walk around the outside of your house to ensure the caulking around the windows and doors has not cracked.
The worst thing that can happen is cracked caulk because it can allow water to infiltrate your home. Over time, this will cause rot, which can become a big expense if you don’t pay attention.
Do things need pressure washed
Now may also be a great time to consider if you need to pressure wash your house, sidewalks, patios, stamped concrete, or decks. Spring is an opportunity to get your home ready for the summer, to where it looks well-maintained, and you can be proud to have your friends over when it is warm.
Staining and Sealing
Once you finish pressure washing, you might want to consider sealing stamped concrete or staining that deck. If you have a stamped concrete patio, sealing should be considered each year.
Have the exterior and interior sprayed for insects
Now you want to consider if you want to hire a pest person to come in and spray for bugs or bees, whichever case, I like to have them spray both inside and outside my house. I want to make sure all those other things that will dirty up the home, i.e. caulking windows, pressure washing, etc. are done before you have somebody come in and spray for bugs.
Have the windows cleaned
Now you want to hire a window cleaner or clean your windows yourself. If you clean windows before any of the steps above, you’ll probably need to clean the windows a second time because you’re going to make a mess from the exterior.
Fertilize the yard
Since you picked up the sticks throughout the yard, there’s really only one other step you might want to consider. And that’s fertilizing your yard. Scotts offers a great four-step program and it’s super easy to apply. I have almost a half-acre lot and can fertilize in about 15 to 20 minutes. Right now, the four steps run $190 for the year. Stores are offering specials if you buy all four bags at once. Easy to do yourself with a $50 spreader. You can have a great-looking yard through to the fall.
Hopefully, you find this helpful.
